Hello! It’s time for another very infrequent email from Studio Kirkland.
Huh?
We are Matt & Erika; Studio Kirkland is our little house brand that covers the different creative projects our family tackles. You might have signed up for this because you also follow Dracula Daily. If that doesn’t seem right, there’s an unsubscribe link at the very bottom of this email.
OK, let’s dig in.
Oh wow it’s September
Local Crush (you know, the migratory souvenir penny press that celebrates the amazing small businesses of Lawrence Kansas?) moves every month. It’s September now, which means you can find the press in a new location today!
In September, it’s at Wonder Fair, aka the Print Palace of the Plains.
Wonder Fair is a national treasure of a shop: full to the brim with stationery, prints, beautiful art/office supplies, and delightful gifts. If you’ve got a design-y eye and like beautiful and useful objects, it’s hard not to blow all your cash here. The proprietors Paul and Meredith are creatively community-minded, and are behind a bunch of cool shit in Lawrence. We can thank them for the COVID-era Wonder Fair Home Shopping Network, the Paper Plains zine festival, and a secret society that we cannot admit to being members of - and lots, lots more.
Also their bathroom is haunted.
You might remember that every quarter that goes into the penny press gets donated to a local nonprofit. This month Wonder Fair has chosen LAAND, the Lawrence All-Ages Noise Destination.
Oh, and we gave the minisite a fresh coat of paint, too.
Dracula Daily on Tour
The Dracula Daily book comes out in just a few weeks! To celebrate the launch, Matt’s headed out on tour. There’s a string of events this fall, and maybe some near you.
Some of these are traditional bookstore signings, some are live presentations where I’ll do a talk, some are interesting hybrid events themed around Spooky Season. You can hear the story about the newsletter and the incredible reaction from the internet, see some memes, get a book signed, or just hang out and ask awkward questions. It's going to be great.
Here’s the when and where (so far):
9/19 - Lawrence KS
9/22 - Boulder CO
10/9 - Charlottesville VA
10/11 - Washington DC
10/12 - Rehoboth Beach DE
10/13 - Philadelphia PA
10/15 - Concord NH
10/16 - Boston MA
10/17 - Brooklyn NY
10/23 - San Diego CA
10/26 - Portland OR
10/28 - St. Louis MO
Note that many of these require registration, and some are ‘sold out’ already 😬 - so if you’re interested, go grab details and claim a spot. Some locations are running wait lists, and have been able to open up more spots when they see things fill up.
There are a couple others that might firm up in the next few weeks. To keep track, there’s a new page on draculadaily.com that lists these. It’s got details and links to each event.
Thanks
That’s it - we’ll email again at infrequent intervals when we’ve got more project news.
